I know at least two people that was attached to this unit at MH, if anyone wishes to share their memories or photos please feel free

From 1946 until its disbandment The BLEU was based at MH later changing its name to The Armament & Instrument Experimental Unit [A&IEU] in 1950, from MH BLEU/A&IEU moved to Boscome Down.

As an Air Training Corps Cadet at 2189 Squadron [Calne] RAF Lyneham I frequently used the Link Trainer facilities, here you had heads up on normal landing/take offs or Blind Landing.

My log book informs me I had 10 hours and 45 minutes experience on Link Trainers at the tender age of between 14-16, this was all for free!! I learnt a lot, very rapidly!

On my last visit to the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton they have two or three Links on display there I believe they hope to get one working soon, any update on that would be great.

Dear John and all on the forum,

I'm brand new on here, but after some digging found the forum and am hoping you can help. I've been doing some research on Canberra VN799, during her time in the A & AIEU in the early 50s and would love to hear from anyone who knows anything from this time, or better yet has any old photos they could share.  Alan Smith of the MH Aviation Society has given me some good info, especially on the location of her crash on 18th August 1953, but if anyone remembers her service there, that would be brilliant.

I'm a big fan of the Canberra, and a web designer by trade, currently at work on a small web site commemorating VN799, so any info will certainly be put to use.

I am also from The Martlesham Heath Aviation Society and was probably your first contact originally on theor website. Alan Smith is a member of this forum also.

although there is no official connect between the two set ups they do work closely together, with links to each other on the websites etc.

I hope you find some more info here.

Hello again Tarkey,

Nice to know our paths have crossed before, and that Alan and other MHAS folk are on here (makes sense!).  Yes Alan set me up with some really useful stuff, but I thought I'd continue to throw my net wide and see what I can find.  I'm a bit of a nut on VN799 an Canberras in general, so I just can't let this one rest yet!

Give my regards to Alan if you see him and thanks for connecting the dots!
