This is all interesting stuff Tarkey! smile.gif.......and many thanks to Laurie for his find, brilliant.

I took a walk over there this morning, there are the revetments there still but the rest of the area is woodland, good to have these memories though. I would have to hazard a guess that Martlesham must rank among the big boys of Biggin, Hornchurch, Debden, North Weald, Tangmere etc as a leading player, in fact its pedigree from the Upavon days of 1917 through to the mid 1960's must surpass those that we have just mentioned.

Just walking about this place stirs emotions and memories like no other and I include Duxford in this. As an example when I worked at the Port of FXT I went to a retirement do, one of my colleagues [the one retiring] spoke about his childhood and how he used to sneak out of Mums house just off Dobbs Lane to look through the bushes at the aeroplanes in WWII.

That must have been every schoolboys dream to be a pilot or a train driver, I know which I would rather have been, thanks for the memories, they are golden! smile.gif

That last pic of 'The Castle' Tarkey being Playford Hall, from 12+ years ago here is a photo of said 'Castle' from the rear ie on your photo it is the section on the left that shows on my photo

I also have one single shot of Kesgrave Hall which I hope to find and upload for Inez, this is of course a top restaurant of the Milsom's Group today

This was taken on the day we visited Jeeps grave Sandra was a friend and the driver for Bill Crumps friends visiting the grave on his behalf. Both were retired Lt Cols USAF

Sandra was a 747 pilot and used to be a theatre nurse who was present when Christian Barnard did the first heart transplant
